【Global Recognition】Departmental Efforts Featured on Oxford University Press (OUP) UK Website for Promoting Reading for Pleasure

We are extremely proud to announce that the collaborative efforts of our English Department have been recognized internationally and featured on the official Oxford University Press (OUP) UK website!

In alignment with the UK government’s National Year of Reading initiative, OUP gathered impactful, practical tactics from the global teaching community. Our school’s English Morning Reading Scheme (EMR), shared through our Head of English Language Education KLA, Ms. Suen Suzanne Tse Shan, was selected to showcase how a unified, team-driven structured routine can successfully spark a love for reading.

The global feature shines a light on the concerted strategies our English Department has implemented to revitalize literacy in Hong Kong’s shifting linguistic landscape:

Collective Motivation: A weekly 15-minute collaborative session where all teachers and students read together, embedding consistency into our school culture.

Bespoke & Tailored Materials: Leveraging the diverse expertise within our English team, we produce six levels of custom “”bite-sized”” digital texts every week. Specially designed to mirror HKDSE exam question types, these materials help students build sustainable reading habits while sharping essential examination skills.

Peer-Reviewable “”Class Dictionary””: A digital spreadsheet platform where students actively collaborate and share new vocabulary.

Our Outstanding Impact:
Since 2022, this whole-school routine has transformed our campus. The average reading participation rate has skyrocketed across both junior and senior forms. This nearly fourfold increase proves that when a school community acts with concerted effort as collective motivators, academic intimidation can be beautifully replaced with confidence and curiosity.

This international recognition is a powerful testament to our English Department’s collaborative spirit, innovative teamwork, and unwavering shared dedication to our students’ literacy development. It is the hard work of every teacher and student involved that made this possible. We celebrate this incredible milestone together as a united school community!
